A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…
Firstly, as a massive Sci-Fi geek it’s my duty to draw attention to the flaw in the concept of this app: as Yoda told us in one of his badly structured sentences, the path to the Dark Side goes like this: Fear leads to Anger, Anger leads to Hate, and Hate leads to Suffering. So, Angry = not good!
But, despite this Rancor-sized oversight, combining the greatest Sci-Fi saga of all time with the greatest selling app of all time was only ever going to result in one thing; and it’s not Attack of the Clowns or Revenge of the Anagram, I can tell you that much. What Angry Birds Star Wars is, however, is absolutely brilliant - better even than Princess Leia in that metal bikini. Simply put, it’s all the usual gravity based gameplay given a – thankfully – original trilogy makeover. Red bird is Luke, black bird is Obi Wan, yellow bird is Han Solo and, well you get the idea, whilst the pigs form Vader and the Stormpigs on the evil Empire side of proceedings. Hmm, that might be the name of my new thrash metal side-project...
Using authentic sound effects and music from the films, Rovio-rendered long-time-ago locations, and genuine Jedi gameplay utilising lightsabers, blasters and, of course, The Force across Tatooine, the Death Star, Hoth and Dagobah, I don’t want to overstate things, but not only is this the best Angry Birds app to date, thanks to George Lucas’s devil may care attitude towards his lending of the license, it’s also the best Star Wars game since the whole lot was done in Lego.

THE BOTTOM LINE
The greatest combination since shampoo and
conditioner in one bottle, the basic Angry Birds Star Wars app is free with an in-app purchase required to access the Return of the Jedi level and, believe me, pay it you will. Better even than when Angry Birds made the jump to Space; this is Angry Birds making the jump to hyperspace…
