THE STORY
Long ago, before disputes could be solved by Rock, Paper, Scissor-Sisters, or working your way up the ladder just involved sucking up to the boss, violence was the only answer. And not just any violence either, savage violence that’s more Bloody Gory than Blood & Glory. I’ve just been a bit sick in my mouth…
THE EXPERIENCE
To paraphrase the Beastie Boys, you have to fight for your right to participate in life when it comes to this sanguinary slash ’em up sequel. Brutal and blood soaked, things have not moved on too much since the original Blood & Glory hacked it’s way to huge success, except that the graphics are now even more gloriously graphic than before, gameplay more unforgiving and the arena audio track more intimidating; fan-bloody-tastic!
Using a combination of cool combo attacks, special moves, weapons of mass decimation, armour upgrades and an innate ability to know when to duck and cover or strike for blood-drenched gold, no two battles will be the same as you work your way across the Empire, tackling all manner of beasts and bosses in a bid to become the undisputed champion of killing.
Anyone who’s played the original will not be surprised to hear that graphics on Legend are console quality, the sound second to none, the action more flowing than a cut to the carotid artery, and the experience utterly immersive. But with enemies now capable of delivering unblockable, undodgeable attacks, the ante has been well and truly upped.
THE BOTTOM LINE
A stunningly rendered app that looks like it should cost at least a fiver, Blood & Glory: Legend is, surprisingly, free to play. Perhaps not so surprisingly then, whilst you can earn upgrades and money in battle or simply as a Daily Bonus for coming back, true progression relies on some in-app purchasing. But then, when a game is this good, I say get spending!
