THE STORY
Tuesday, as we all know, is little more than Thursday’s less sexy brother. So if you need a high-flying pick me up to help you towards ‘the hump’ then look no further than the lusty looking flying fillies of Bombshells: Hell’s Belles…
THE EXPERIENCE
Sadly, sky scorching shoot ’em ups tend to fall into one of two camps: 1) the predictable, scrolling, simple side-to-side manoeuvring button basher, and 2) the overly complicated, graphic-groaning, vomit-comet copying, multi-tasker that’s as enjoyable to look at as a Star Wars prequel. Well, flying violence fans, finally we have an aerobatic actioner that’s not gratuitous on the graphics, keeps controls uncomplicated and utilises your accelerometer to get the balance just right.
Take your pick of foxy female flier from the selection of somewhat suggestively swathed hotshots and take off after the infamous enemy that is T.O.O.L, following prompts to take down targets, tapping and tilting to navigate the free-flowing three dimensional space and down the dastardly evil-doers in dynamic dogfights.
With missions aplenty and non-stop, beautifully animated action on offer, Bombshells: Hell’s Belles is certainly a lot of bang for your buck; and speaking of which… yes, free to play and although some upgrades are accessible as rewards, this is an airplane app that, like travelling with RyanAir, can get quite expensive quite quickly – the no-frills may be free, but when it comes to in-app charges for the ‘optional’ extras required to get the game to progress, the sky, sadly, seems to truly be the limit…
THE BOTTOM LINE
An excellently designed airborne action app with gripping gameplay and great graphics that’s a huge amount of fun to play for free, but which, ultimately, is let down by unreasonable upgrade charges. As a paid for app, it’d be easily worth £5+, as a freemium, however, the price of progress is just too high.
And on that Bombshells…
