Take apps and wine, for excellent example. Whilst we often praise the generosity of the grape whilst testing out apps, imagine an app that was all about that august alcohol, an app that doesn’t just encourage the imbibing of fine wine, but also that you do so right at the source. THE EXPERIENCE

Produced in conjunction with the Bordeaux Wine Council (CIVB), the Comité Régional de Tourisme d’Aquitaine and the Comité Départemental du Tourisme de la Gironde, this is the ultimate app for fans of a bottle or two from Bordeaux. Packed with wine facts, if you’re planning a visit to vin-land then this is your point of entry for finding accommodation, be it camp site or chateaux, sourcing restaurants, and locating wine tourism services while in the thick of wine country.

With a clear and easy to use interface, you can search for information either by place name or simply based on your current location, the app will advise on all the action available in your immediate appellation, displayed with full address, phone and email details and with a handy map, leaving you free to tour and taste to your heart and liver’s content.

THE BOTTOM LINE

In a nutshell, every wine region in Europe should have an app just like this. A breeze to use and bursting with factual flavours straight from la bouche du cheval, Bordeaux Wine Trip is to the wine tourist better than hiring your own guide. Unfortunately, however, ludicrously unctuous Oz Clarke-esque descriptions of the actual wine will have to be all your own work…
