At Life Of Android we’ll be the first to admit our financial knowledge is falls well below that of your average Wall Street tycoon but we’re always willing to learn a little more about matters of business. Thankfully, the CNNMoney app is here to help and is pitched at just the right level between incompetent beginner and haggard GDP pro. No, we don’t know what GDP means…

The Experience

Having already tested CNN’s standard Android news app and found its primary flaw to be too much Piers Morgan, our hopes were high for CNNMoney. With an array of hot off the press stories, in depth video reporting and plenty of charts and graphs, there’s certainly enough detail here to placate even the hardest to please banker.

Information is divided across the three tabs of News, Markets and Watchlist with the latter allowing you to pick your favourite stocks and chart their fortunes as they tumble up and down the Dow Jones. This brings us to our primary critique of CNNMoney, it’s too American-centric to be the first port of call for an international user base.

That is, its news stories are directly aimed at an American audience and the app can’t be customised to make it more Euro-friendly. It’s an understandable but frustrating feature of an otherwise brilliant app.

Everything else about CNNMoney is just dandy with an easy navigation system included for news stories where you scroll down the menu to select your story and swipe across the story to move onto the next one. Related video appears at the top of each article with loading times running at only a couple of seconds and graphs can be modified according to timespan. Essentially, while the economics behind this app may not be user friendly, everything has been done to make the content as understandable as possible.

While CNNMoney is not quite perfect, credit is due to its developers for creating an accessible news app with a pleasing amount of bells and whistles attached.
