Eurovision song contest 2013 head

Way back in 1956 the leaders of all the nations in Europe decided that, rather than have any more overly expensive wars to sort out our disputes, we would instead have an annual sing-off of epic proportions, a sing-off with a point system on which every nation could vote to ensure that the competition was fair and that the UK would eventually never be allowed to win. And so the Eurovision Song Contest was born…

The official app of the often-awful Eurovision, whilst not a follower of the high-camp car crash TV that is the Song Contest myself, I am aware of the huge regard that vast swathes of the public hold it in, so the development of an app that allows fans access to the aural atrocity “365 days of the year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day” seems like a simple case of giving the public what they want. And with the whole show shebang scheduled to air a week on Saturday (May 18th) live from Malmo in Sweden, what better time to whet addict’s appetites with an app? Offering an assortment of thrills and spills covering the latest developments, gossip, national selection news, exclusive interviews, videos and photos in the build up to the ‘spectacle’, once the screen is ablaze with the modern day equivalents of the sweet Sandie Shaw, the exceptional ABBA, and the – Lordy what the hell are they? – of Lordi, the app will arm you with info on each artist as they take to the international stage and even load up the lyrics to let you sing along… even though you won’t know the tune; but then that’s never stopped many of the actual acts themselves, so go crazy. [Not a valid template]

A nice slice of Song Contest fun for those who want to get involved, feature-packed, intuitive to operate and encouraging online involvement with all the fervour of a virtual Club 18-30 rep, enthusiasts will love this access-all-areas Euro-app. And speaking of the final, this year we’ve fielded Welsh-warbler Bonnie Tyler as UK representative; she’s a solid performer, but every now and then she falls apart. Ahem.
