The Story

If you’ve not seen Family Guy, then you need to take a long, hard look at your life and reassess your priorities. Without doubt the funniest cartoon comedy on TV, Family Guy follows the Griffin family as their patriarch and chief bufoon, Peter, gets himself embroiled in all manner of sticky situations and then spends the rest of the episode trying to extricate himself from them. The Family Guy app gives series lovers access to every episode from all nine seasons of Family guy and, at £7 for the whole lot, looks like something of a bargain.

The Experience

Fire up the Family Guy app and you’re confronted by a basic menu – the main thrust here is clearly the unfettered (provided you have a decent web connection for streaming) access to every Family Guy episode in existence. Yes you can access a selection of 15 different wallpapers, yes you can read notes on all the characters featured in Family Guy’s nine series and yes you can listen to some of the hilarious songs written specifically for the show. But what you want from this app is episodes. And plenty of them. And thankfully that’s exactly what this app delivers.

Scroll through each season and read a detailed synopsis of each episode. From there it’s just a case of selecting whether you want to stream the episode in HD or SD. On all but the most expansively-screened devices – tablets will show up the lossy SD encoding – you can get away with SD for the sake of conserving your data allowance if away from Wi-Fi. If you’re heading out, it’d be wise to buffer an episode before moving away from your Wi-FI connection – there’s no way to download episodes to your device to watch on the train, etc, so watching two or three episodes on the bounce, even in SD will take some patience.

The app itself is well designed, if a touch basic, but we have to mark it up for the sheer volume of quality content alone.

The Bottom Line

If you don’t mind watching on a small screen, or own an Android tablet, then this is a must-have for all fans of the series and those of you looking for some laugh-out-loud cartoon entertainment for a long commute.
