Food, glorious food: if you don’t like it then you either need immediate psychological help or you’re already dead. We here at Life of Android certainly do like our food, but clearly not as much as the ‘feeders’ behind appetite-sating obsessive app Foodspotting…

THE EXPERIENCE

Something of an ideal app for those who like to dine out a lot… and let others know that they do. Not just about recommending eateries, though, Foodspotting encourages its users to rate individual dishes wherever they go, from botulism-packed burgers from street vans to Michelin starred morsels at the fanciest of French restaurants, take photos and share the experience.

On opening the app the GPS kicks in to instantly offer up a menu of local grub-option recommendations, complete with pic, distance from your location, map, access to any and all comments on said grub and the option to add your own. Or if you’re going further afield, you can try an open search for locations or even a specific dish you’ve acquired a strange, remorseless taste for. And it’s all rather good.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Fast to respond, with a tasty looking interface, Foodspotting is a great, strangely compelling, resource for foodies, a wonderful two-way street of salivation that cuts out the need for restaurant self-aggrandising or pompous reviews from critics with initials instead of first names, like RAC Ligg in the Sunday Times – it’s just real people, recommending real food, that’s really close.
