THE STORY
Just imagine a world of drooling, slack-jawed, lumbering zombies combined with some of the hottest horsepower imaginable, insane, power-sliding driving and weapons galore with which to wreak devastation in a cloud of wheel spin – no, it’s not the new series of Top Gear, it’s Gears & Guts…
THE EXPERIENCE
Just when you thought they’d covered pretty much every conceivable, and quite often inconceivable, angle of the old ‘…vs Zombies’ app scenario – Plants vs Zombies, Samurai vs Zombies, Call of Duty Black Ops vs Zombies, Cher Lloyd vs Zombies (made that one up), ad nauseum – suddenly the undead-fancying developers manage to come up with an irresistible new concept in walking-corpse carnage: on four wheels.
Yep, buckle up and put the pedal to the metal as Gears & Guts challenges you to careen through streets and shopping malls in a souped up source of zombie annihilation, mowing them down with your bonnet mounted machine gun, shattering them with a power slide slam from your chassis, or rubbing them out with your tyre tread before they call shotgun and become the travel companion of your nightmares.
Set amongst a sizeable, seen from above, cityscape, graphics are detailed and, erm, quite graphic when you do leave the brain-hungry smeared down the road behind you, but that’s your reward, well that and arms upgrades and the chance to face even bigger, more challenging, far nastier not-quite-deads. Far nastier…
THE BOTTOM LINE
With the option to steer using either your device’s accelerometer or via on-screen arrows, gameplay is smooth and as fast as you can handle before crashing into too many walls, an array of original missions keep the action flowing and the always on-coming army of agile awfulness will keep you driven to distraction for many an hour. Let’s ride!
