Aptly named, orchard-owning, app-dweller, Granny Smith, loves her apples. Unfortunately, however, so does the skate-assisted serial scrumper stealing all her fallen fruit. Can you help the aged and pip him to the punch? Let’s cut to the core…

THE EXPERIENCE

The words ‘Apple’ and ‘Thief’ used in the same sentence tends to bring far less fun, Samsung-suffering scenarios to mind of late for those in the smartphone arena, but whilst the everything ‘i’ boys are busy safeguarding innovation on the phone front, or whatever, over in app land the battle for the apple is taking on quite a different shape in this non-stop, action-packed, pensioner on pilferer side-scrolling platformer.

Reaction- and judgement-based, timing is absolutely everything with Granny Smith, hitting the jump off point just right, assuring the little old lady is orientated to land on her feet as the ground comes soaring up to meet her at all manner of angles, hooking onto zip wires with your cane at precisely the right point, and all whilst trying to collect coins and amass the apples before the rollerskating robber reaches them.

Fun and furiously fast-paced, graphics are nicely detailed, gameplay smoother than a fruit smoothie, and there’s always a fresh obstacle ahead to assault that will either end in sweet success or a spectacular smash courtesy of the app’s impressive advanced destruction physics.

THE BOTTOM LINE

With a generous 36, incredibly well-designed levels to tackle, along with the option to watch your best runs played back in a retro movie style with slow-mo and special effects, unlike that other high profile apple-based wrangle, if there’s one thing Granny Smith is guaranteed not to do, it’s to leave you disappointed. A playable platform that costs a pittance, Granny Smith has huge app-peal…
