THE STORY
Continuing our run up to this year’s seasonal celebration of Satan and his hideous Hellish horde on Halloween, today we turn and run with a gun as brutal beastie beater, Infinite Monsters, unleashes, erm, well, infinite monsters…
THE EXPERIENCE
As a busy man often too concerned with providing news and reviews for award-breaking websites to get overly involved in long-play games, there are certain qualities of apps that float my virtual boat: fast action, colourful, uncluttered graphics, a hero with a flattop, cigar and array of armaments, and a number of monsters somewhere within the region of ‘infinite’ coming at me relentlessly to an electric guitar soundtrack. Give me that lot and I’m happy as a pig in Larry!
So, congratulations to Italy Games on producing this – a full-on box ticker that, what it lacks in subtlety of gameplay and sophistication of style, it more than makes up for in good old fashioned fire ’em back to Hell fun. Utterly simplistic to play, you run to the right to finish the level, tackling the assorted zombies, demons and largely unclassified ‘monsters’ as you go, remembering to watch your back for sneak ambush attacks and, of course, brace for the boss.
With ammo clips and first aid supplies to grab as you go, gun upgrades are also available using either the points earned amongst the onslaught or via in-app purchases.
THE BOTTOM LINE
And that’s it – basic, bloody and boundlessly boisterous, Infinite Monsters may not feature all the complex conditions of others of its undead-eliminating ilk, or bother with engineering enemies that are genuinely the stuff of your most harrowing nightmares, but if its infinite fun you fancy, then this is just the trick for a Halloween treat.
