The Story
Lane Splitter is an extremely simple arcade app for Android where your goal is to avoid crashing your motorbike while driving through a road filled with traffic and police stings. There are no extra settings, no bonus levels and no additional gameplay goals, it’s just you against the world and it’s awesome!
The Experience
Lane Splitter’s control system is incredibly intuitive since all movement is designated by tilting your Android handset left or right to dodge the cars you speed past. These hulking motors and trucks are uniformly occupied by hazardous drivers who wouldn’t know a wing mirror if it hit them squarely in the jaw. Naturally, they’ll dive in front of your bike at the least opportune moment making a set of razor-sharp reflexes an essential survival tool.
Your high scores are calculated by a combination of the amount of time you spend on the road, the amount of cars you overtake and the speed at which you travel. Lane Splitter is engineered for Facebook connectivity so if you know any other speed freaks you can compare your scores against theirs, as well as on a world rankings table.
As is the case with any free app, Lane Splitter allows you to upgrade the gaming experience by paying $1.99 for a four-pack of new characters but little else has been restricted for the sake of forcing you to pay. Also, we’re quite fond of the pre-supplied bad boys Ricky and Jake.
All in all, there’s not a huge amount to Lane Splitter but its 3D graphics are incredibly well executed and we just can’t stop coming back to it in a restless attempt to break our high score.
The Bottom Line
A simple concept, brilliantly executed in free app form with fantastic 3D graphics and fabulously addictive gameplay.
