The Story
As a gaming platform, Android is distinctly lacking in golf games. There are a few titles
out there, but there many more golfing tools than there are games. Let’s Golf 2 takes
a lighthearted approach to the other beautiful game, adds a chunk of cartoon graphics
and removes a good deal of golf’s complications to create a user-friendly, supremely
playable golf sim.
The Experience
Dive in and play a few rounds with the instant play option or go for the career mode that pits you into the thick of competitive action to gain medals and precious experience points.
Let’s Golf does away with a lot of the complexity of run-of-the-mill golf sims. Essentially the only things you need worry about are the power and accuracy bars, that require a swift tap at the right moment to strike the perfect shot. An indicator on the power bar, tells you exactly when to tap and the right club for the shot is chosen for you automatically, although you can select your own if you disagree with the game’s choice. Get the ball onto the green and things get ever so slightly more complicated as you need to take into account the angle of the green. But it’s all eminently self-explanatory.
In career mode, there are six different courses to unlock, each with a number of challenges associated with them. Each challenge has gold, silver and bronze medals associated with it and, depending on where you finish, you unlock various new bits of kit and gain experience points that increase your player’s level.
Alongside the career and instant play modes is the challenge mode that offers four different challenges, each with five difficulty levels. Choose from Catch The star, where you have to hit four stars on the course within a time limit; Birdie or Bust, where you must score a birdie on each hole within a time limit; Longest Putt, where you have 15 seconds and only one shot to putt the ball; and finally Bunker Ball, that requires an accurate chip onto the green from a bunker before completing the challenge objective.
Plenty of longevity then and plenty of pick-up-and-play fun to be had without the drudgery and complexity of the actual game of golf.
The Bottom Line
Brilliant, arcade-style golf game. Lacks real depth but is all the more fun for it. Will please all but the most die-hard golf aficionados
