THE STORY
Long before the home entertainment zenith of the invention of TV and the subsequent nadir of the invention of Channel 5, families would make their own amusement by gathering in the parlour around the ‘Old Joanna’ and belting out a few hymns. Fortunately, those dark days are long gone, but if you fancy a go at tickling the ivories for old time’s sake, the latest addition to the Android app army is just the thing: Magic Piano…
THE EXPERIENCE
The ability to play a music instrument is a magical thing, just look at any of those Cowell and Co. produced non-talents that can’t. But the reality of paying top-dollar and finding the space for something like a piano can often put that magic beyond the reach or mere mortals. Plus, as instruments go, it’s probably the least practical when it comes to impressing those out and about with your mastery of music.
However, not unlike having Guitar Hero on your phone, but for the piano, Magical Piano makes the art of bashing the black and whites a breeze. Pick a tune and follow the down scrolling lights to tackle timing and finger positions, taking on tunes ranging from the traditional – Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, Amazing Grace, Fur Elise, etc – to more ‘today’ tunage from the likes of Lady Gaga, Timbaland and Travie McCoy, whoever that is.
With 200 songs available, new songs and free songs are added to the options weekly, but, naturally, the more intriguing offerings will cost you Smoola – the in-game currency which you can buy online.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Undeniable fun, Magic Piano has finally made its way over from iOS where 13 million players have made it #1 Piano App. With the ability to share your sonorous success or abysmally atonal abortion online with friends on Facebook or via SMS or email too, this Piano Magic will be music to a multitude of new ears.
