THE STORY
One for the kids now (or the young at heart/mind) as the prolific producer of app excellence, Gameloft, rolls out the latest addition to its app assemblage: Monster Life, an egg-hatching, monster-making, origami-esque battle against the minions of Chaos…
THE EXPERIENCE
Ever wondered what it might be like to hatch, grow and train your own army of monsters? Well wonder no more, because your time has come. Set against the backdrop of the cool and colourful cartoon landscapes of the islands of Numa, it’s your task to rear your, actually rather endearing, monsters, feeding them, petting them, cleaning them, entertaining them and, most importantly, training them to fight so that they grow big, strong and capable of holding their own in a beastie-based battle to the death.
In total there are more than 20 miscreations to collect and train, all with unique individual abilities, and some 36 battle zones spread across four islands to explore as you build and expand your own kingdom. But, as this is a freemium title and the acquisition of more monsters and better buildings comes down to the trade of crystals that you need to buy from an online shop, progress comes at a price; but then Gameloft has bills to pay too.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Perfect for keeping the kids amused on long journeys or when sheltering from a torrential downpour on a typically British summer day out at the beach, Monster Life cunningly combines cute creatures with an utterly original approach to graphics, easy going gameplay, elements of action and an addictive edge that’s guaranteed to keep the sale of crystals at an all-time high.
