Shareprice trading app

The Story

Android has dozens of fantastic share-tracking apps. The only problem is that all of these are clearly aimed at an American market. All except one, that it. If you want real-time data from the London Stock Exchange, then there’s only one choice: SharePrice. This app is provided by Interactive Investor, which says it is the UK’s largest independent online financial-services service

The Experience

Having installed SharePrice, you’ll also need to register with the firm’s website and install the required AirMail app before you can begin to use it. You can, however, do both of these processes from within the app itself.

Once you are up and running, it’s easy to add new portfolios or specific shares, using a simple search-based tool. This app does also cover the other major stock-markets (though this data is delayed by 15ins).

By entering details of shares that you’ve previously purchased and the prices you paid for them, you can track any profits or, more often, these days the losses you’ve incurred. It’s even possible to set alerts so that you’re warned if a share price drops below a specific level or rises above it.

Other impressive features are the ability to check market news or discuss events from within the app. It would have been nice to have these features tied into your own share portfolio, though.

The basic version of the service is free, as is the app. This provides a live feed to London Stock Exchange prices but only on a contended basis. The firm describes a contended connection as meaning that “you may be subject to disconnects or unable to connect at all based on the number of users trying to access the service at any one time.”

Professional wheeler-dealers will obviously prefer to upgrade to the Shareprice Pro service, which costs £22 per month. This dumps all the intrusive ads in the free version and, apparently, provides an uncontended data-connection and Level 2 order-book. Whatever that means.

The Bottom Line

Despite minor flaws this is the best finance-app for tracking the LSE. An essential download for serious UK investors
