The Story
SnaPanda is the kind of app we didn’t know we needed until we downloaded it. Now it seems a perfectly natural addition to any Android owner with a penchant for reading or writing. So that means pretty much everyone doesn’t it?
The Experience
Although Life Of Android like to think our vocabulary is both voluminous and distinguished, even we get stumped from time to time when trying to understand an odd word. Thanks to SnaPanda, now we’ve found a discreet way to spare any confusion and quickly solve any reading conundrums.
The app essentially works as a picture dictionary where you photograph the word you’re unsure of on your Android’s camera and it looks up the definition. It might be quicker to check Google to find what you’re searching for but it would be considerably less fun.
Impressively, the app passed nearly every test we threw at it, from weird words to tiny fonts. The only instance where it struggled was with white text on a black background yet most card reader apps we’ve tested fail to succeed in this domain. The definitions themselves are pretty reliable too and, thankfully for us Brits, both ‘proper’ English and US English is supported.
As with all the best Android tools, SnaPanda fulfils its simple brief with style and panache. If you’re unfamiliar with that particular French word, there’s a certain app which will definitely be able to help you out.
The Bottom Line
A fun, free picture dictionary app for Android.
