Humans; we’ve been getting on each other’s nerves for so long that, when we finally got our act together and headed into space, it was inevitable that we’d annoy ET too. In this case, however, ET is a big, angry space Hive Queen and we annoyed her so much that she and her drones have destroyed the Earth. So, as the Admiral of Strikefleet Omega it’s down to you to and your crew to stop the Queen wiping out the remaining human colonies. Yes, we REALLY annoyed her…
Like a modern 3D take on space invaders, Strikefleet Omega sees you warping from star system to star system in a bid to beat the bugs. With a static cartoon storyline, some striking backdrops and nicely animated battle scenes, it’s your job to despatch the fighters, selecting trajectories to engage the insects and, hopefully, blast ’em into oblivion.
There’s a variety of ships to choose from in your outer space arsenal, including Artillery Gunships, Bomber Carriers and Particle Projection Gunships, all there to help you defend the command ship and buy you the time needed to mine more crystals to fire the warp engines.
With a range of rewards and upgrades available and the ability to warp in more fire power when required, despite gameplay seeming a little repetitive at times, no battle is ever quite the same, keeping you on your toes and keeping the game fresh and fun.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Excellent intergalactic bug-splattering entertainment, Strikefleet Omega has a lot going for it, gameplay is fast and fluid and a wealth of upgrade options help things flow. However, a freemium title, if you want to progress quickly it’s going to cost you cash. That aside, if you like space and the continued existence of humanity but hate insects, then what’s a bit of expense when you can have this much fun?
