The Story
Super KO Boxing 2 is a cartoon button bashing app for Android where you play an ambitious young fighter looking to work his way up to the top of the boxing elite. It’s fast, furious and, for the most part, fun. If a tad infuriating.
The Experience
Your Super KO Boxing 2 experience encourages you to get stuck into Championship mode from the beginning without the aid of any tutorial. This means you’ll fumble around with the app’s onscreen controls before getting a handle on the hulking Southern hick named Big Kip in front of you.
Despite the lack of instructions, this app is pretty easy to understand since you’ve only got dodge, jab and hook buttons to contend with. Your technique for beating a series of freakishly stereotyped opponents (including 15 Cent and Sake Bomb) should vary but it all boils down to successfully dodging a punch and then counterattacking in turn.
This can get quite repetitive after a while but the toil is broken up by some humorous character animations and the difficulty of actually landing a blow. While you can only stand being hit to the floor around twice in a match, the computer can survive up to four near knockouts before a finishing blow is finally struck.
So Super KO Boxing 2 is fairly derivative and tricky to perfect as well but we like it enough to overlook these qualms. There aren’t many serviceable fighting apps for Android and this is one of them, so kudos to developers Glu Mobile.
The Bottom Line
A solid boxing app which is repetitive but great fun.
