The Story
U Plus is a puzzle game, pure and simple. In the grand tradition of Sudoku, it’s a game of mathematics where you’ll need considerable arithmetic skill in order to solve each problem. Well, you’ll need considerable skill to complete the problems in the fastest time…
The Experience
U Plus has four levels, each one progressively harder than the previous. Select a level and you’re presented with a grid of addition problems with missing digits. The idea is to select the correct number to slot into each box that successfully solves each problem. The difficult part is making sure that each number slots into the correct row and completes the problem both along the horizontal and vertical axis.
However, there’s one thing that makes U Plus a good deal easier than it could have been and that’s a row of errant, missing numbers that slot into the gaps in each problem.
Sadly, this makes the game a good deal more simple than it needs to be and with only four levels to choose from, you’ll find yourself recording solid times on all four within half an hour or so of picking the game up.
It’s this lowest-common-denominator-focus that means that anyone with a maths GCSE will be able to complete the puzzles in under two minutes without too much trouble. Allied to that, each problem is a simple addition, there’s no subtraction, division, or multiplication to complicate things and that makes U Plus a game with much promise that ultimately fails to challenge in any great depth.
The game interface is attractive enough, but without even a global score card to compare your high scores against the world’s greatest players, the game will only keep you occupied for an hour or so before you’re looking for challenges elsewhere.
And the final nail in its coffin is that it costs 69p. It should undoubtedly be free and then you’d have to ask yourself whether it’s worth the download time given its brevity.
In summary: AVOID.
The Bottom Line
Staggering lack of depth or appeal makes the 69p price tag almost laughable. One to avoid.
