If there’s something we don’t do enough in Britain, it’s talk about the weather. Just not ever considered a worthy topic of conversation with your average Brit, with nothing to complain about or commend, what the sky does has never been of any concern to us. But that might be all about to change, thanks to an app that makes weather and weather forecasting both accurate and a bit sexy…

THE EXPERIENCE

Okay, I admit, moaning about the weather is pretty much all we do in the UK; and given the abysmal wash out that summer has been so far, who can blame us? We swing from hot to cold and dry to sodden in the blink of an eye and, subsequently, never know whether to leave the house armed with sun cream or a conveniently sized ark. However, thanks to the timely arrival of WeatherBug we need never get caught short again.

A free app that uses GPS to work out your location and then, subsequently, the movement of clouds, winds, that thing we used to call ‘the sun’ and any oncoming Biblical floods in your locale to leave you with a far more accurate idea of what awaits you.

Featuring a lovely little interface that displays current along with high and low predicted temperatures, precipitation expectation in millimetres, wind speed and direction, a handy quick-glance weather icon if you can’t be bothered with the science, humidity readings, sunrise and sunset times, pressure levels and extended forecasts for the rest of the week, this is a full weather package more accurate than the Met Office.

THE BOTTOM LINE

A splendidly designed, info-packed and useful app, WeatherBug will not only keep you dry, free from the threat of sun burn (not that much of a threat in the UK) and full informed, it’s also the ideal app ice-breaker in any socially awkward situation between Brits!
