THE STORY
Wi-Fi is great, but sometimes it can be irritating. Signals can be patchy, and you can’t always be sure you are getting the best from your own router at home. WiFi Analyzer has a few tricks to help you get the best Wi-Fi performance possible.
THE EXPERIENCE
WiFi Analyzer might sound like an app designed for the more geeky among us, but don’t be fazed. Anyone can use it to get the low down on signal strength and help you find the best networks to hop onto when out and about.
The app ranges its information over several screens. Two are particularly useful. There’s a nice graph which shows all the networks in range by name, with a graphical representation of their signal power. If you are looking for a free hotspot while out and about then choosing the one with the best signal strength makes sense.
At home, if the graph shows your neighbour’s Wi-Fi has a stronger signal than yours maybe you need to reposition your router, or change channel to get a better connection.
The other particularly useful features is a Geiger counter style display that beeps faster or slower to illustrate the connectivity strength to a specific router. It is useful for checking where the Wi-Fi blackspots are at home and testing range as you move your router around to find its optimum location.
THE BOTTOM LINE
WiFi Analyzer is a great little utility that’s easy to use. It can be really helpful in getting the best from your home Wi-Fi and finding good networks to hop onto while you are travelling. It’s easy to use, and, glory be, it is free.
