The internet is a funny place. Google the word ‘Amazon’ and rather than a factually curious entry on the world’s largest rainforest or second largest river, you’re first and foremost hit with the option to do some serious online retailing. But then the internet is not really there for pseudo-education as much as it is for leisure and, of course, choice; which is why tapping the word ‘Amazon’ into a search engine soon will open up a new world of choice for Android users.
According to a report in The Inquirer, Amazon is planning on expanding its own-brand Appstore into Europe within the coming months, inviting developers to begin building apps now in anticipation of the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain launch.
Said Jim Adkins, VP of the Amazon Appstore, “We are thrilled at the success our developers have experienced on the Amazon platform in the last year. Some developers have seen revenue double since the launch of In-App Purchasing. We’re excited to open the door to even more opportunity by expanding app sales outside the US. We see tremendous potential for current developers in our distribution program to grow with the international expansion. We also encourage new developers to join and participate in the platform’s growth.”
Set to stand as a serious app attaining alternative to Google Play, an exact date for the UK launch has yet to be announced, but when it does go live Android addicts, unlike unlucky one-option Apple App Store users, will be truly spoilt for choice. Watch this space for further news.
