Hurricane Sandy may have put the serious dampeners on Google’s planned launch party in New York on Monday but, alongside wheeling out a whole host of new devices online instead, the Mountain View massive also confirmed a pretty amazing achievement: Google Store now contains some 700,000 apps…
An increase of a whopping 25,000 since Google whipped out the official figures just last month, the jump to this latest milestone puts Google Play’s app count on a par with Apple’s App Store for the very first time, utterly coring one of Apple’s key selling point and meaning the race to 1,000,000 is well and truly underway!
Google has yet to officially comment on pulling neck and neck in the app offering stakes, but we know from recent announcements that the Big G has been working tirelessly to encourage developers to produce more and better apps for the open source OS on both smartphone and tablet fronts, which suggests that the charm offensive has worked and goes some way to explaining this incredible growth in such a short period.
Now bring us that million!
