Amazon’s Android Appstore had the exclusive on the new Angry Birds Rio game when it open its virtual doors in the U.S. last week but for AB fans outside the States not being able to get hold of the title proved incredibly frustrating. Luckily, the wait hasn’t been too crippling because the latest instalment in this smash hit avian franchise is available to download from the Android Market. Right now. For free.
Naturally, because it’s gratis you will have to endure those pesky pop-up ads but it’s a small price to pay. And it looks like Angry Birds Rio is more than just a rehash of the original. Okay, the basic gameplay is identical but a few new cheeky elements have been added to spice up proceedings. Firstly, those evil pigs have been sidelined, so your new mission is to free fellow caged birds. What looks like flying monkeys have been introduced to scupper your rescue plans while hidden fruits are now ready for discovering. Best of all is the enticing prospect of a big boss fight plus there are new achievements to hit and awards to win.
The new game delivers 60 levels spilt into two episodes – Smuggler’s Den and Jungle Escape but to keep interest simmering nicely, creators Rovio are set to roll out new levels in May, July, October and December 2011. As always Life of Android will keep you in the loop regarding their arrival.
