For those not exactly in the know when it comes to mobile platforms, unlike the OS ‘others’, Android is open source; and that means it’s open to everyone – open to the app developers to work with as these please, open to the owners to have the apps they want, when they want them and, thanks to a new app fresh up on Google Play, equally open even to the elderly and the visually impaired.
Called BIG Launcher, this highly helpful and fully customisable app does away with the phone’s fancy, complicated, app icon overpopulated home screen, displaying instead an uncluttered, even-numbered selection of equally sized, large icons that allow instant access to main phone functions with just one touch.
A concept not dissimilar to the Georgie app we reported on back in July, BIG Launcher features three different, easily readable font sizes and, for extra added assistance, everything is read by Talkback. All of which makes the £2.99 app an eminently affordable essential for any Android user whose eyes ain’t what they used to be.
Available for download from Google Play here, Android truly is the OS that’s open to all.
