ARLab to Really Augment Your Reality

Most of you by now will have at least dabbled with augmented reality apps, whether making Iron Man fly around a bit from out of your computer screen, desperately trying to hunt down the nearest branch of Starbucks (other coffee shop brands are available) during the worst low of a caffeine crash, or merely blasting invading aliens out of your house, AR is rapidly becoming part of our daily experience. And it’s about to up its augmented ante…

Not only is Google’s Project Glass fast on the way to becoming a Google-goggle reality, the boffins at Spain- and Israel-based ARLab have launched new reality bending tools, along with a community space, to help developers share resources and get the AR apps flowing.

The lab claims that its AR Browser and Image Matching tools can add an augmented reality geo-location to any Android app in less than five minutes and use the device’s own hardware to finish the image processing job in mere milliseconds. All developers need to do is add the images and the engine will do the matching like some advanced AR dating agency.

“Actions like reading a newspaper or a magazine, or even shopping will not be the same with the use of this fast growing technology, which is used by more and more mobile app developers,” said Pablo García Morato, CTO of ARLab. “ARLab’s main focus is developers, and AR Browser and Image Matching are revolutionary solutions created for them.”

So, if you are still to embrace the augmented app world, the exciting, actual reality of it is that soon you probably won’t be able to avoid it!
