We warned you that the day was coming way back when Adobe first announced it would not be whipping out a Jelly Bean compatible version of its ever-dependable Flash, and now the day has come: the Flash app is no more…
With its collective eyes now firmly focused on HTML5, Adobe has pulled the option to install from its Google Play Flash app, proving that its promise to pull out of the smartphone and tablet market was no idle threat.
Naturally, if you had the good sense to download the app back when the first rumblings of abandonment from Adobe were heard, then you can relax, as not only will it still work, security updates will also still be made, however once you step up to the tasty new Android 4.1, your Flash days are well and truly over.
The upshot is, naturally, that you’ll not be able to play Flash content on your phone anymore which, as that tends to be the vast bulk of video online, could make things massively annoying. But as it’ll be the content providers who ultimately lose out, we at LOA suspect we’ll be seeing a lot more material being pumped out in superior HTML5 and back onto our smartphones soon. At least we hope so, otherwise how will be get our fix of comedy classics when stuck on public transport? Doesn’t bear thinking about…
