Free Google Maps Navigation ranks as one of the best sat nav apps on the market and not just because it’s gratis. It offers an almost full-fledged performance that rivals more expensive solutions on Android Market. That said but it’s still lacking in some departments, most notably live traffic updates, but the Big G has now rectified this miss by adding the dynamic feature to the app.
Historically, Google Maps Navigation would calculate the fastest route, offering alternatives like shortest route or sticking just to motorways. Now, using real time traffic updates and past knowledge of the roads, it will automatically determine the quickest, congestion-free journey to take from those route choices. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem capable of automatically re-routing you should you unexpectedly hit a tailback mid-drive. Even so, considering it’s free, this new update is a boon for drivers.
