PC In Your Pocket

Posted by on the 14th September 2012

Regular readers of this fine online organ will no doubt remember the MK802 petite PC we featured way back in May as though it was yesterday, but for those who missed that specific report due to, let’s say, unforeseen circumstances, the act of a vengeful god or some terrible but fleeting mental episode, the device in question was an amazing 1.5GHz Allwiner A10 processor packing USB stick PC with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage for instant Android computing on the go.

Well, upping the ante now is the UG802 – a similar looking Android-actioned affair that performs the same mobile computing miracles as its predecessor but now at Usain Bolt defying speeds thanks to a Rockchip RK3066 ARM Cortex-A9 dual core processor and a whopping 1GB of RAM. What’s more, while integrated storage remains the same at 4GB, a microSD card slot lets you expand that capacity, built-in Wi-Fi in all flavours (802.11b/g/n) lets you fly wire-free, 1080p support keeps you HD happy, and a built-in HDMI connector allows you to plug all of that directly into your TV for the ultimate in convenience.

Running on the delicious Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and boasting Mail400 graphics processing and support for 3D gaming to boot, this awesome a-little-larger-than-atomic Android is available now for around the piffling price of US $69 – and that, open source OS fans, is the future of computing in your pocket.

Seems impressive, interesting even. OK, I’ll be the dummy and go first, how do you control this thing, like telling it to do stuff and looking at what it’s doing/done? You know, those things they used to call keyboards and monitors.
