Excellent news for fans of flinging furious fowl and physics lovers alike, Rovio, the developers behind the now 1-billion download-celebrating, record-breaking über app Angry Birds Space, has announced its been busy beavering away on a whole new game: Amazing Alex.
Due to launch sometime in July, Rovio CEO, Mikael Hed, told Finnish TV channel Yle on Friday that Amazing Alex will be another physics-related puzzler centred round a boy who likes to build things, the titular Alex.
Based on Casey’s Contraptions, which Rovio recently acquired from developers Snappy Touch and Mystery Coconut, said Rovio’s Ville Heihari: “Working with Noel [Snappy Touch] and Miguel [Mystery Coconut] has been fantastic, and this is a game that we all fell in love with from the first play.
“The gameplay is a perfect fit in our arsenal with its approachable, fun and highly addictive take on the physics puzzler genre. We are currently reworking the title to enhance it, and getting ready to reintroduce it in a true ‘expect the unexpected’ Rovio-style launch to an even larger audience.”
Rumored to include an educational element to it, whether Amazing Alex will be met with the same phenomenal success as Angry Birds Space is, obviously, yet to be seen; but given Rovio’s strike rate, our advice to any other developers considering launching anything of a similar ilk in July is quite simply: postpone.
