Following up on the review of GrooveRunner last Friday with news of another exercise app mere days later might make some believe I’ve turned into a remorselessly running, sweatband-toting, salad-bothering health-freak but, whilst it is true my body is a temple, I’m pleased to report it’s more like a ruined temple from an Indiana Jones movie and my stubborn adherence to the edge of heath is as tenacious as ever.
However, knowing that there are those of you who like to hurl their bodies around the streets, pumping their legs and lungs hard to stay in tip-top shape, the latest release from pavement pounding product purveyors, Scosche, seemed right up your street.
An armband and app combo called RHYTHM (you have to shout it), as you flap your feet the wrist-wrapping gizmo measures your pulse as you ply your way, pairing up over Bluetooth with your Android phone to save all the exercise info, record your route and map it out for latter bragging rights in the (dry)bar, and upload all and sporting sundry online for analysis after your athletics.
What’s more, akin to GrooveRunner, you can access and enjoy your music library as you leg it, using the armband’s buttons to change volume and skip back and forth through tracks. However, unlike the free GrooveRunner app, the additional armwear hardware will set you back US $100. But then, if your approach to exercise is not unlike my own, a means to measuring your heart rate could well be worth the extra expense!
