Sega have announced they are to port Sonic CD, a 24-carat classic game, onto Android. If there’s a better news story to start your Friday, we at Life Of Android cannot conceive of it.
Despite being regarded as one of the highlights of Sega’s Sonic franchise, Sonic CD originally met with a lukewarm public response due to its release on the much maligned Sega CD console. It has since been re-released as part of the Gamecube and PS2 Sonic Gems Collection but sadly not many people bought that either.
“We’ve made sure the re-mastered edition has everything that Sonic fans want to see with all of the original colourful classic zones,” said Sega in a statement.
Sonic CD was the blue hedgehog’s last game rendered in two dimensions before he transformed into 3D for the Sega Dreamcast’s Sonic Adventure series. Although no release date has been set for the game’s Android debut, owners of a smartphone featuring Google’s OS can expect it to arrive shortly with a staggered expansion onto other “mobile phones and consoles everywhere.”
