The Vertu of Android

It has been said by some of the industry’s more uncharitable characters that the only reason for Android’s trumping of all of its OS rivals is because the handsets are cheaper and, therefore, accessible to the budgets of all and sundry. Well, uncharitable-types, it’s time to get your pipes out, because I’ve got some smoking stuff for you to stick in it.

This is the latest ludicrously luxurious envy-encrusted communicator from Vertu, the Ti – handmade in somewhere called ‘England’, the Ti not only looks the smart part, it also runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and retails from – wait for it – a staggering £6700 (that’s around €7900 for anyone left in Europe with money and nearing $11,000 for those of you reading this in the US of America).

Featuring its own fancy Vertu user interface and skin, for the Double Dip-denying price tag you get a 3.7-inch scratchproof sapphire crystal screen, a dual-core 1.7GHz processor, an 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p recording and a 1.3-megapixel snapper on the front, 64GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM, NFC, and sound that’s been tuned by Bang & Olufsen, whatever that means.

All that comes packed in a polished aluminium and black ceramic case and topped off with a special Vertu key that gives instant access to a range of exclusive for the elite content tailored to the – let’s face it - Oligarch owner, and access to Vertu’s 24 hour Concierge Service.

“Vertu Ti is the most rounded product that we have ever designed,” said Massimiliano Pogliani, global chief marketing and communications officer at Vertu. “The new Android platform and elegant physical presence combined with Vertu’s renowned curated benefits and services deliver a unique and exceptional proposition.”

So Android is the choice of the cheap is it, detracting iObsessives? Take that! Oh, you can’t, you haven’t got £6700…
