Yes, it’s time to cross another week off the calendar and rejoice in the knowledge that, rolling around with all the inevitability of another series of The Only Way is Essex, but in a good way, the weekend is here.
We at the home of all things Android have great plans for it too, heading off for a return to nature, spending two days orienteering deep in the great outdoors, smartphones turned off, no technology to disturb us, just us, nature and our own innate man-skills. No, not really! That’d be worse than waterboarding! No, seriously, we’ll be sat in all weekend working hard on our non-tans and scouring the web for every Android event occurring and remorselessly reviewing any apps that catch our Sauron-like collective eye to bring to you fresh on Monday morning. We tried going outside once; it didn’t end well.
So before we immerse ourselves in the interweb and you lot wade into your own weekends, let’s take a moment to hark back over another incredible week in the Life of Android… come on, hark with us!

The last word in app-assisted interment is arriving in October as the most moribund use of your mobile allows you to plan every aspect of your own funeral. Firmly putting the ‘I’ in ‘funeral’, iFuneral makes dying easy and takes the journey to your eternal rest out of the hapless hands of those you leave behind.
Android Army: 500 Million and Growing
All in the title, really, Wednesday saw Google’s Director of Product Management, Hugo Barra, take to the lawn outside the Big G’s Mountain View HQ to announce that Android activations had eclipsed half a billion. Can’t picture it? Imagine 10 people, now add another 10, and another… and keep going until we tell you to stop.
Never one’s to take sides, we took an unbiased view of Apple’s latest, imaginatively titled, offering, the iPhone 5 on Thursday and found, well, all the upgrades from 4 and Apple-innovations seemed a bit, you know, familiar…
