Android Market revamped as Google Play with bargain apps bonanza

Google has hit back against the launch of Apple’s iPad 3 today by rebranding the Android Market to Google Play.

Described by a spokesman as an “an evolution of Android Market”, Google Play seems to be an attempt link the Android Market, Google Music, Google Books and Google Movies together in one unified store. read more

Temple Run impostor deleted from Android Market

Last fortnight Apple got in trouble for making a fake Pokemon Yellow app available for download. Now it’s Google’s turn to be embarrassed after approving a blatant Temple Run copycat.

Despite displaying the correct name, logo, and developer details in its Android Market listing, users of the knock-off app were presented with a countdown timer and plenty of notification adverts upon its launch. read more

Controversial HoboHunt app urges Android users to 'kill homeless people'

A new photo sharing app called HoboHunt has sparked outrage after encouraging users to ‘hunt real hobos’.

The free download from U.S developer Synventus works by superimposing an arsenal of weaponry on top of camera images. It was blocked three times from Apple’s App Store before arriving on Google’s Android Market. read more

Apps banned from the Android Market could find a new home as part of a proposed store by Koushik Dutta, a member of the CyanogenMod development team.

Emulators, tethering and visual voicemails apps could all be available for download outside the reach of Google’s developer restrictions providing a haven for rooted Android devices. read more
