Mozilla Firefox 5.0 for Android gets beta release
Web browsing performance given fine tune but where's the Flash?
Mozilla’s Android web browser Firefox 4.0 shed its beta skin as recently as the end of March. Followers of Life of Android will know we didn’t think much of the beta app or the final version proper. It was serviceable enough but when compared to rival apps Skyfire, Dolphin HD and the Opera duo, it fell short – which is a little unfathomable when its desktop version is so awesome. Still, Mozilla is giving up that easily and is back with Firebox 5.0 for Android Beta.
Looking at the updated version, the improvements appear to be centred on performance and bug fixes rather than any major new features. We’re told pages should load faster over a 3G connection while panning and transition animations are slicker than before. Compatibility with the popular SwiftKey keyboard app is now sorted and you can now opt out of online behavioural tracking so your web activity isn’t monitored by visiting the preference menu. read more
